Mersea Island

The objection of the Group is that the Draft Local Plan does not recognise that Mersea is an island with restricted access due to it's single tidal road.  Also the limited room for expansion for future generations with the whole island lying within the Coastal Protection Belt. Also the omission of constraints, transport issues, incorrect housing data and the lack of capacity for medical care on the island. It is also the submission of the Group that the DLP is unsound in respect of its proposals for 200 new dwellings in West Mersea and Caravan Parks on Mersea Island.

BOROUGH LAUNCHES NEW CONSULTATION ON HUGE NEW HOUSING ESTATE IN NORTH ESSEX

Garden settlements have been proposed by Colchester Borough, with Braintree and Tendering. A total of a further 43,000 houses. Completely over the top. Where is the money coming from?  Their track record – the new bus station?

Residents can place their own views on this through the website - http://braintree-consult.objective.co.uk/portal/negc . The closing date for comments is the 22nd January.  STOP350 will be responding. See also: h ttp://www.cause4livingessex.com/get-involved/

WHAT A SURPRISE (NOT!) IT'S BACK TO 35O!
It's official!  The Developer in it's submission to the Inspector wants 250 houses on Brierley. With the 100 proposed on Dawes Lane a total of 350 more homes are being considered in West Mersea. This latest news is contained in the Developer's published objection to the Local Plan.

MERSEA OBJECTIONS OVER 60% OF TOTAL FOR COLCHESTER
The most recent figures from the response to the latest consultation show that by far the greatest opposition is from Mersea residents.

VICTORY FOR MERSEA RESIDENTS
Pressure by residents and by STOP350 has achieved a notable success by successfully opposing a further 67 static caravans on Cosways Holiday Parks.  Defeated at the Borough’s Planning Committee despite the very strong support received for it from the Deputy Leader of the Borough Council, Tim Young.

A successful application on Cosways would have a very profound impact on the surrounding area including Cudmore Country Park. A real jewel in our local crown. The application breached many of the Borough’s own planning requirements; had a major impact on the local environment and added significant traffic on very narrow roads.
